Groundworks is looking for a Drainlayer / Leading Hand Drainlayer to join our team.
We're a Wellington-based civil construction company delivering three waters, subdivisions, roading, and infrastructure projects across the Wellington region. We take pride in doing quality work, backing our people, and building teams of capable operators and tradespeople who get things done.
This role is suited to someone who is more than just a drainlayer. We're looking for an A player—someone who takes ownership, leads by example, and wants to be part of a high-performing team. Whether you're already leading crews or ready to step up into a leadership role, we'd like to hear from you.
What you'll be doingInstalling stormwater, wastewater, and water reticulation infrastructure
Leading small crews and coordinating daily site activities
Reading plans and ensuring work is completed to specification
Working alongside operators and labourers to deliver projects safely and efficiently
Maintaining high standards of workmanship, productivity, and site safety
Assisting with testing, commissioning, and project handovers
Helping develop less experienced team members
What we're looking for
Qualified Drainlayer or equivalent industry experience
Proven ability to lead by example and drive productivity on site
Strong understanding of drainage construction and civil infrastructure works
Ability to read and interpret plans
Current NZ Driver Licence (Class 2 or WTR endorsements advantageous)
Reliable, self-motivated, and solutions-focused
Someone who takes pride in their work and holds themselves to a high standard
