About the Role The purpose of the MHSW role is toprovide active support for clients who reside in the Regional and NationalIntellectual Disability Secure Service (RIDSS/NIDSS). This includes walking alongside clients asthey engage in therapeutic, vocational and quality-of-life-inducing activitieswithin the service and the community.
The role includes carrying out activities as delegated by the registerednurse in a manner that is safe, ethical and culturally responsiveAbout theTeam/Service/ Location ID ForensicServices has adult, youth and community services. Haumietiketike is a regionalintellectual disability secure forensic unit which has eleven beds.
TheCottages have a total of eight beds and are located next to Haumietiketikewhich is on the Ratonga-Rua-o-Porirua campus in Porirua. Manawai isthe national facility for adults with an intellectual disability and/or mentalillness who have conditions of such severity that they have been subject tolong-term hospital level care compromising their quality of life.

It comprisesof six beds within Individualised Service Units situated alongsideHaumietiketike.Hikitia TeWairua is the national intellectual disability secure forensic youth unit whichhas six beds. Hikitia Te Wairua is co-located with the Youth Acute InpatientMental Health Inpatient Unit (Rangatahi) and the National Secure Youth ForensicUnit in the Centre of Excellence at Kenepuru Hospital.TheIntellectual Disability Secure Service provides secure (inpatient) care andrehabilitation services for male and female adults and adolescents who have adiagnosed intellectual disability and have committed often serious offences.Our clients are usually Care Recipients or Special Care Recipients under theIntellectual Disability (Compulsory Care and Rehabilitation) Act, 2003 who havebeen convicted or found unfit to stand trial.

The maximum number of clients inour inpatient services is 31 people. The length of stay for each client varies,and in more recent years orders have been made for an average of two years. To ensure that our clients receive the bestpossible care and rehabilitation, the service has developed a Model of Carethat draws on the strengths of our clients and each discipline within themultidisciplinary team.

This framework incorporates the Good Lives Model ofoffender rehabilitation, a comprehensiverisk assessment structure, a Positive Behaviour Support approach to direct care, and aformal staff supervision and education programme. The ID Service is part of thebroader Mental Health, Addictions and Intellectual Disability Service (MHAIDS),which spans the Wairarapa, Hutt Valley and Capital, Coast District and includeslocal, regional, and national services.About you The service is staffed by a team of cliniciansfrom medical, nursing, allied health and support work backgrounds.

A workforce that is diverse andinclusive means that we are better positioned to understand and serve ourcommunity.Your skills and experiencewill ideally be:At least NZQAlevel 4 or higher certificate or equivalent qualification or willingness towork towards this qualification for the right candidate.An interest inworking with intellectual disability service users under the RIDSS Model ofCare, which incorporates a Positive Behaviour Support framework.Ability to workunder guidance and according to treatment plans and guidelines developed by theclient's multidisciplinary care team.Ability to workin a cohesive manner and make an effective unit/team contribution.Ability to workalongside service users by way of active support with their daily activities.Ability tocommunicate clearly and effectively in both written and oral forms.
