Our Biodiversity and Biosecurity team has an opportunity for a Monitoring Field Operative to work in and around some of the most beautiful and remote areas in New Zealand.
We are seeking applications for a permanent full-time Monitoring Field Operative to undertake pest animal monitoring projects for various clients including OSPRI/TBfreeNZ and the Department of Conservation/Te Papa Atawhai.
The position is based out of Nelson, but you will work in many different geographical locations. There are times during the year when there is less demand for the monitoring work – in these periods you would be required to work as a Conservation Ranger within one of our Nelson based Conservation teams, carrying out a range of practical fieldwork activities such as pest plant control, planting, re-vegetation and vegetation clearance.
We are keen to hear from you if you are an outdoors enthusiast, passionate about the environment and willing to work in all weather conditions.
Ideally, suitable candidates will have some of the following skills and attributes: (full training can be provided to the successful applicant)
- A high level of experience in remote backcountry locations
- Experience with rural NZ industries, farming, forestry etc
- Previous experience with rural pest animal monitoring and control and / or recreational hunting.
- Ability to work autonomously and as a lone worker
- Workplace First Aid with NZQA US (6400, 6401, 6402 <2 yrs old).
- Four Wheel Drive cert with NZQA US (17976, 17978 <3 yrs old).
- Light Utility Vehicle cert with NZQA US (24553, 24556, 24558, 24562 <3 yrs old).
- Two-wheel motorcycle certification with NZQA US (19053, 19054, 19055, 19057 <3 yrs old).
- BioNet/NPCA monitoring accreditation including the use of traps and WaxTags®.
- NZ Certificate in Pest Operations L3 – Rural Pest Monitoring or Control.
- Class 1 NZ Driver’s Licence (Class 6 also preferable).
