About the RoleOranga Rangatira is a Maaori-led model of care delivered within Health NZ | Te Whatu Ora Mental Health and Addictions Service. The service supports tangata whaiora in the Waikato who experience high and enduring mental health needs that are not effectively met by traditional service models.

Grounded in Te Ao Maaori, tikanga, and kawa, and aligned with Te Tiriti o Waitangi, Oranga Rangatira weaves the values of Waiora and Kiingitanga into all aspects of practice.Each tangata whaiora has an allocated senior coordinator, who works as part of a multidisciplinary team.This role:Is core to driving a multi-agency approach, through communication and driving of the care plans across agencies.Holds the whole picture of care.Coordinates access to supports.Maintains continuity across environments.Ensures outcome measures are completed, evaluated and part of ongoing care.

Mental Health and addiction services in the Waikato are committed to be Maaori led. You will weave the values of Waiora- Manaakitanga, kotahitanga, Aahurutanga, Mana Motuhake, and Whakawhanaungatanga through your daily mahi.Kotahitanga| Working in collaborationThis position will allow the successful clinician to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team consisting of Takawaenga, occupational therapists, psychiatrists, clinical psychologist, registered nurses, social workers, AOD clinicians, peer support workers and mental health assistants.

About the Team/ServiceOranga Rangatira is a Kaupapa Maaori led service that will support tangata whaiora with complex mental health issues living in Waikato. There is a 24-hour community residential rehabilitation service that works to the kawa and tikanga of a papakaainga to provide opportunity for growth in living skills.
Under development is a community service which will supports tangata whaiora living more independently throughout Kirikiriroa. About Kirikiriroa / HamiltonKirikiriroa now known as Hamilton is a place woven with deep Maaori history and identity.
Its name, meaning long stretch of gravel, reflects the fertile lands that sustained Waikato iwi for generations. For centuries, it was a vibrant hub of settlement, gardening, and trade along the Waikato River, the life-giving Waikato awa that connects marae, hapuu and whaanau throughout the region.
Kirikiriroa holds significant cultural importance for Waikato-Tainui, carrying stories of ancestral migration, chiefly leadership, and the enduring principles of manaakitanga, whanaungatanga, and kaitiakitanga. Today, the city still stands as a living expression of that heritage, where tikanga and whakapapa continue to shape its identity.Kirikiriroa - Hamilton is a vibrant city nestled alongside the scenic Waikato River, offering a perfect mix of nature and culture.

With its vibrant atmosphere and proximity to outdoor adventures, Hamilton is an ideal place to live and work.For more information on living and working in Waikato click here About youRegistration with the applicable registration board with a current annual practicing certificate.A minimum of 5 years post graduate experience in a mental health, community health or primary care setting.An understanding of clinical governance and evidence-based practice.Experience in professional supervision.Experience in service improvement.Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth.Highly developed interpersonal communication and negotiation skills including demonstrated ability to build productive working relationships with colleagues to achieve required outcomes.Ability to take a proactive role with other organisations to achieve sustainable outcomes for tāngata whaiora.A current full drivers licence.
