Your new role:

As Lead Data Engineer, you will report to the Manager of Data Technology and take ownership of designing, building and optimising a modern cloud-based data platform. This is a senior individual contributor role where you will provide hands-on technical leadership, champion best practice, and guide the transition from legacy platforms to modern Azure-based solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, build and maintain scalable, secure and high-performing data pipelines
  • Develop robust ETL and ELT patterns, reusable components and enterprise-grade data models
  • Establish and promote best practice in coding standards, testing, CI/CD and documentation
  • Ensure data quality, reliability and accessibility across analytics and BI use cases
  • Provide technical leadership through code reviews, mentoring and architectural guidance
  • Improve platform resilience, observability and cost optimisation
  • Collaborate closely with BI, data science and wider business stakeholders to deliver fit-for-purpose solutions

Requirements:

  • Extensive experience in data engineering with a track record of delivering production-grade data platforms
  • Strong hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS or GCP
  • Deep expertise in SQL and Python for large-scale data processing
  • Strong understanding of data warehousing, lake and lakehouse concepts, data governance and metadata management
  • Experience with modern data tools such as Databricks or Snowflake
  • Proven ability to provide technical leadership in agile, product-focused environments
  • Tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Information Systems or equivalent experience
