You can check out more information about Government House here: Government House (gg.govt.nz) Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role As the Team Leader, Engagement and Communications, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the Governor-General’s public engagement and communication activities.
Leading a high-performing team, you will oversee the development and delivery of strategic communications, public education programmes, and visitor experiences at Government House.Your responsibilities will include: Providing inspirational leadership to the Engagement and Communications team, fostering collaboration and professional growth.
Developing and implementing a comprehensive communications strategy. Crafting high-quality, well-researched speeches, messages, and public communications that reflect the Governor-General’s voice and priorities. Managing media relations, including responding to media queries, monitoring public sentiment, and providing timely advice to key stakeholders.
Overseeing the operations of the Government House Visitor Centre, ensuring engaging and inclusive public education programmes and resources. Building and maintaining strong relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including community groups, government agencies, and cultural organisations.

Exceptional communication skills, including expertise in speechwriting and the ability to convey complex information clearly and effectively.
A proactive and strategic mindset, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver results in a dynamic, high-profile environment. A strong understanding of New Zealand’s system of government, constitutional processes, and the role of the Governor-General.
A tertiary qualification in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field (a postgraduate qualification is preferred). A high level of cultural competence, including an understanding of tikanga Māori and Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles.The total remuneration range for this position is $111,000 - $121,489 p/annum including KiwiSaver contributions and appointment will depend on demonstrable skills and experience.
