The Ministry's values are integrity, excellence and collaboration.About the opportunity | Ngā whakamārama mō te tūngaOur Finance team plays a vital role in enabling the Ministry to deliver its best—providing expert financial analysis and services that support operations, ensure regulatory compliance, and mitigate risk.As the Assistant Accountant, you will work across the Department and Crown accounts to support the Financial Controller with the management of the Ministry's core financial services and accounting function, including backing up team members when required.Your role is also responsible for:Processing and managing accounts payable transactions, including foreign exchange paymentsManaging the accounts receivable processManaging the Purchasing Card and Cash Expense functionPreparing GST returnsFixed assets accounting and maintenanceSupporting the month-end financial processes including journals, reconciliations, and integrity checksSupporting the internal and external audit processesProviding training and education to Ministry staff where needed.What you'll bring | Te wāhi ki a koeExperience and demonstrated capability in finance operations, including AP, AR, reconciliations, financial accounting, and tax complianceSolid understanding of accounting principles, including GST and relevant compliance standardsProficient analytical skills, experience and demonstrated capability in using analytical tools, including non-financial conceptsStrong experience and demonstrated successful capability in end-to-end delivery of work while working under pressure and managing tight timelinesExperience and demonstrated capability in successfully interpreting and communicating effectively to diverse audiencesProficient in Microsoft Excel and FMIS systems such as TechnologyOne (preferred)Holds or is working towards a relevant accounting qualification, such as a university degree, Accounting Technician, or Chartered Accountant designation.Salary range | Whānuitanga Utu ā-TauThe base salary budget for this position is $79,983
