  • What you'll doThe Family and Community policy team works on a range of complex social sector issues that include a health dimension or influence health outcomes.

Areas currently covered by the team include:child and youth health, including maternity and early years outcomeshow the health system responds to the needs of children and young people in care and youth justice settingsthe health of older people and the aged care systemthe Government's response to the Royal Commission into abuse in care and faith-based institutionsfamily violence and sexual violenceother work involving connections between the health system and other areas of government policy including immigration, education, and welfare.As a Policy Analyst, you'll be part of a team that delivers high-quality, evidence-based advice to improve health outcomes.

This will include gathering and analysing information to inform policy analysis, developing and applying your analytical skills to understand policy issues, and developing policy documents including Aide Memoires and briefings that provide advice to senior managers and Ministers.

To do this you will need to build and leverage strong relationships with a variety of stakeholders within the Ministry and other agencies.

  • What you'll bringFor this role you will need to have:A tertiary qualification in a health, policy or a relevant field and/or equivalent experienceStrong written and oral communication skills with the ability to tailor information to a range of audiencesSome understanding of public policy, government processes, and structuresAn analytical mindset with the ability to ask probing questions to uncover underlying informationStrong relationship-building skills and experience working with stakeholdersAn ability to think ahead, use initiative, establish priorities and meet deadlines whilst preserving high levels of accuracy and confidentialityApplicants with previous experience working in policy preferred.
