Butcher - Full Time

At New World Howick we are proud of our reputation for delivering excellent customer service. We are currently looking for an enthusiastic and customer focused individual to join our team. Preference will be given to applicants with high presentation standards, who are highly self-motivated and have excellent communication skills to complement an already efficient and successful team in the Butchery.

The role of the Butcher is to assist in the day-to-day running of the Butchery department, ensuring that maximum range and sufficient quantity of high-quality fresh meat is available for sale at the correct price at all times during opening hours as well as keeping the department clean, tidy and attractively presented.

To succeed in this position, you will need the following experience, skills and attributes:

  • Strong relationship builder, team player and problem solver.
  • Strong verbal and written communication.
  • Customer and Food Safety focused.
  • Reliable and have a strong work ethic to demonstrate to other team members.
  • Experience as a qualified Butcher in a similar retail environment.
  • SAP experience would be advantageous.
  • Planning, organisational and time management skills.
  • Maintaining standards and an eye for detail.
  • Reliable, self-motivated and a good team player.
  • Physically fit and healthy.
  • Proven customer service experience.
You can expect to be focused on the following job functions:
  • Breaking, boning, slicing and cutting all carcasses and meat in preparation for sale.
  • Adhering to and leading all Food Safety and Health & Safety requirements.
  • Ensure all meat that is displayed is done so correctly trayed, wrapped and labelled.
  • Complete all necessary traceability as required.

Hours of work:

Tuesday: 5am to 1pm
Wednesday: 5am to 1pm
Thursday: 5am to 1pm
Friday: 5am to 1pm

Saturday: 5am to 1pm
