Produce & Inwards Goods Supermarket Manager - Invercargill

This is a permanent full-time role requiring flexibility to work weekends, early mornings (from 6am), evenings, and public holidays.

Key Responsibilities: Manage and maintain clean, tidy, and well-stocked departments

Ensure stock rotation, date checking, and only the freshest produce is on display to store standards.
Organize and delegate daily tasks, routines, and responsibilities
Recruit, train, mentor, and roster staff
Manage stock control using computerized software and handheld units
Maintain accurate inventory records and ensure timely stock replenishment
Handle record-keeping including temperature checks, date checks, and cleaning schedules
Lead and motivate the team to meet sales targets and key performance indicators
Manage supplier relationships, purchasing, and pricing strategies
Ensure compliance with budgets, council health and safety requirements, and store policies
Respond effectively to unforeseen incidents such as theft or emergencies

Deliver superior customer service and develop strong relationships with stakeholders

Be able to minimize waste and control stock levels are accurately to ensure stock levels are maintained within acceptable level.

Skills and Competencies: Strong leadership and team management skills

Solid understanding of budgeting, compliance, human resources, and supply chain management
Ability to formulate and implement purchasing and marketing strategies
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills

Positive and proactive attitude

Must have excellent product knowledge and be able to identify what items customers prefer and what items are least preferred, during different times of the year.

Able to grade produce to ensure the quality is fit for the store and customers.

Qualifications and Experience: Tertiary qualification in Management preferred, or 2–3 years’ work experience in the retail industry

Previous experience supervising a team in a fast-paced environment
Physically fit, capable of lifting heavy items consistently
Manager’s Certificate (or willing and able to obtain)
First Aid Certificate (or willing and able to obtain)
Forklift Licence (F Endorsed) (or willing and able to obtain)

Full New Zealand Driver’s Licence (or willing and able to obtain)
