Sous Chef / Prep Kitchen Assistant – Full time

Full-time opportunity to join the team at Le Cordon Bleu New Zealand Institute.

Work in a Culinary Institute kitchen within a friendly and supportive team without the pressure of service cooking and the regular late nights.

The position as Sous Chef/Prep Kitchen Assistant is a full-time role, 5 days a week mainly working weekdays. No work on Sundays, Public Holidays or during the Christmas and New Year Period.

This role is to prepare the ingredients/equipment for the culinary class. Some cooking for events is required.

Sous chef duties include managing the food control plan, keeping records, taking care of the safe and tidy storage of ingredients, keeping track of stock levels and inventory to ensure stock on hand is up to date and available for classes preparation, creating daily as and when ‘to do’ lists for the kitchen hand team, making the kitchen team a lunch and maintaining the upkeep of the teaching kitchens.

You will be rostered 5 days a week from (with periodic Saturday and late shifts during events and restaurant opening, so some flexibility is required).

What we are looking for:
  • A good knowledge of ingredients, and food-preparation
  • Commercial kitchen experience - minimum of 2-year experience
  • Good eye for detail
  • Good organisation skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Self-motivation is a must
  • Clean and tidy work habits
  • Safe Food Safety practices
  • Some flexibility as roster hours change for events and term breaks.

Only candidates who are currently legally entitled to work in NZ will be considered for this role.
