Farm Assistant
We are seeking a self-motivated and reliable farm assistant for our 550-cow dairy farm located 30 mins from Whangarei. The local community is very welcoming, with several great schools and active Rugby and Squash Clubs.
The role requires someone who enjoys working with animals and is confident milking cows. We are looking for someone who is keen to learn, a team player, and displays a good attitude. We offer a supportive and friendly workplace where work-life balance is valued.Tractor experience is a bonus, but alternatively a willingness to learn to drive a tractor with a feed-out wagon is essential
The 276ha milking platform farm is 90% flat contour with a 40 aside herringbone cowshed. We operate 180 autumn calving and the rest of the herd spring calving; an automatic drafting gate and all cows have collars for heat detection and health alerts, etc.Maize and summer crops are grown on the farm.
The specific responsibilities are to support all operational processes, including farm property and equipment maintenance, animal husbandry and all aspects of stock management, with a high standard of record keeping (including animal health and milk quality requirements).
Tasks include but are not limited to:
- Milking cows, including getting the cows in, washing down and cleaning vat, etc
- Assisting with feeding calves during the calving season
- Break fencing and feeding out
- Spraying
- General farm work and maintenance
The roster will be 6 on 1 off then 5 on 2 off . A permanent position with a minimum of 30 hours a week.
Salary $52,000 | House $20,800 | Total package $72,800
