Assistant Cemetery Caretaker (Sexton)

What the job involves
Performing a range of tasks to keep our cemeteries well maintained and presentable, you will also operate a variety of equipment from line trimmers and chainsaws to our excavator. The majority of your time will be spent mowing and ensuring our lawn cemetery is at an appropriate standard at all times.You will also assist in a range of operational cemetery tasks including burial plot preparation, care and adornment tasks and maintaining accurate records. Our standard working week is Monday to Friday, 8 hours each day starting at 7.30am. Some weekend work may be required to support the community need for weekend burials. This position will provide a rewarding and varied role where you can take pride in your work while helping ensure our customers’ needs are met during their most difficult time.
Who we are looking for- Friendly, reliable individual with practical life experience
- Some familiarity operating small machinery (trimmers, weed eaters etc).
- Experience operating an excavator would be an advantage, although not essential. We will provide training and upskill the successful applicant.
- You will be comfortable working both independently and as part of a small team
- Confident managing your own workload throughout the day.
- A full clean driver’s license is essential and any additional endorsements would be beneficial.
- Most importantly, you will bring a positive, can-do attitude, and a willingness to learn.
