Part time role supporting livestock, teaching, and research operations across two farms in a hands-on, varied, and rewarding farm assistant role.

Mo te tuka | The role

Help support teaching, research and commercial operations across two unique farm environments while building your on-farm skills and experience.

Work across Lincoln University's irrigated Research Farm and dryland Ashley Dene property to support general farm duties, animal care, teaching and research programmes. You'll assist the Farm Manager, researchers and students in a varied and rewarding hands-on role.

Some tasks of the role include:

  • Assist with feeding, stock movement, and lambing activities
  • Support teaching and research livestock handling and logistics
  • Carry out fencing, irrigation, and general farm maintenance
  • Record animal health and operational data accurately
  • Operate farm machinery and vehicles safely
  • Apply fertiliser, assist with weed control, pasture and crop establishment
Permanent role, working 24 hours (0.6 FTE), Monday to Friday between our Springston based farm and Johnstone Memorial Laboratory at Lincoln University campus. Salary: $60,000 per annum, depending on experience, pro-rata to part time hours (approx.

$36,000 per annum total).

You will have:

  • Experience working on a sheep and beef farm with machinery use
  • Motivation to learn, adapt and take on new challenges
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to follow procedures and maintain accurate records
  • Empathy for animal welfare and high standards of care
  • Willingness to act as 2IC in the Farm Manager's absence and flexibility to work extra hours during peak periods (September to March)
  • Alignment with Manaakitaka and Lincoln University values.
