The Role
We're seeking an exceptional Head Barista & Latte Art Educator to lead our coffee program and establish Frank's as Wellington's premier destination for coffee and latte art education. This unique role combines high-level barista leadership with developing and delivering professional latte art training courses for both industry professionals and coffee enthusiasts.
Key Responsibilities: Barista Leadership & Operations (60%)
Lead daily cafe operations on the bar, setting the standard for coffee quality and service excellenceTrain, coach and develop our barista team to consistently deliver exceptional coffee experiences
Ensure coffee quality standards are maintained through regular cupping, tasting and quality control
Collaborate with our roasting team to optimize coffee profiles and brewing parameters
Support cafe management with rostering, ordering, and operational efficiency
Work hands-on during service, especially peak periods
Latte Art Education & Program Development (40%)
Design and deliver structured latte art courses for external participants (beginner through advanced levels)Develop comprehensive training curriculum and educational materials
Conduct regular workshops and courses
Provide specialised latte art training for our internal barista team
Build Frank's reputation as a center of excellence for coffee education
Create promotional content showcasing latte art techniques and courses
Represent Frank's at coffee events, competitions, and industry gatherings
What We're Looking For
Essential:
3+ years professional barista experience with demonstrated excellence in latte artProven track record in latte art competitions (regional, national, or international level)
Strong teaching and communication skills with ability to educate diverse audiences
Deep understanding of espresso extraction, milk texturing, and coffee science
Leadership capability with experience coaching and developing teams
Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
Passion for specialty coffee and continuous improvement
Flexibility to work across a 7-day roster including weekends
Entitlement to work in New Zealand
Minimum qualifications: High School / College
Highly Desirable:
Placements or wins in latte art competitions (throwdowns, championships)Experience developing training programs or educational content
Knowledge of multiple brewing methods and coffee processing
Active engagement in the coffee community
Social media and content creation skills
Coffee quality-control skills and experience
What We Offer
Competitive hourly rate based on experience ($26.50 - $31.00 gross)Full time Position. 5 days a week, Monday to Sunday, with minimum guaranteed hours of 34 hours per week.
