School Caretaker

New Plymouth Girls’ High School is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Caretaker to join our existing team to help maintain a safe and attractive environment. This is a hands-on, active role suited to someone who takes pride in their work, enjoys variety, and has strong practical maintenance and groundskeeping skills.

The role involves regular outdoor work in all weather conditions.

The position is permanent, full-time, with hours of work from 7.00am to 4.00pm, Monday to Friday. The role is classified as Grade 1, in accordance with the School Caretakers', Cleaners', and Canteen Staff Collective Agreement.

Our Caretaker team is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance, repair and presentation of the school buildings, grounds and facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Grounds maintenance including mowing, weeding and edging and general garden care.
  • General maintenance and minor repairs of buildings and facilities.
  • Opening and securing the school daily.
  • Lifting, moving and setting up furniture and equipment for school events.
  • Maintaining tools, equipment and maintenance supplies.
  • Undertaking regular property checks to ensure health and safety compliance.
We are looking for an individual who has a passion for gardening, and grounds/property maintenance. While experience is always an advantage, the key attributes are strong practical skills and the ability to work independently, as well as part of a team.

An understanding of knowledge of health and safety practices, or a willingness to learn, and a full, clean NZ driver licence is required.
