Until children can be reconnected with their whanau (families), you will have an important part to play in assisting them on their journey by providing patient, tender hearted, safe and consistent care. As Caregivers in the Home you will be doing everyday care tasks, taking tamariki to activities, cooking meals, helping with homework, playing games, shopping for clothes as well as doing fun things, like sports, hobbies and holidays.This helps make the home a family-like environment for tamariki. We believe that by getting involved early in their lives and showing love and care, we give children the best chance of growing into happy thriving New Zealanders.Mō te tūnga | About the roleOur Home Caregivers live with and care for up to 5 tamariki in a house provided by Oranga Tamariki.A big part of your role in the Home is to support children to achieve their goals and aspirations and to help them maintain important connections especially with their whanau (family) and others who are important to them.During your time off, care workers will care for the children and continue the routine of the Home.
All tamariki have their own plan which contains information about them, their goals and their needs. Home Caregivers are an important part of the wider care team which includes the whanau, social worker, and other professionals. Tamariki may stay in the Home one night, one week or require longer care.
Each tamariki has unique needs but they all have a need for love, belonging and safety. The family environment the Caregivers provide, plays an important part in tamariki to do well and reach their goals.Ngā pūmanawatanga ōu | What you will bringMost importantly tamariki need support from people who: Can stay calm through difficult times Can build warm and caring relationships with young people and their whanau Have a deep respect for, and understanding of diverse cultures with a strong understanding and appreciation of Maori values, traditions and perspectives.
