Support Worker - Make a Meaningful Difference:

We are a small team supporting a 54 year old man at Waihi Beach. We are looking for a motivated, energetic and compassionate person to join our team to support our client in achieving independent living within his own home and engage with the community.

A person who can appreciate the underlying factors behind challenging behaviour and deliver steady, compassionate assistance

Our client is Deaf and has Aspergers Syndrome however he is an excellent reader and writer and can communicate by written word or sign language. You will be supported to learn basic everyday sign language to enable fluid conversation. He is fit and active and enjoys the outdoors including swimming, fishing, 10 pin bowling.

There is no personal care

Shifts Available: 24 hour shift 7am – 7am including a sleep over and cover when required

What You’ll Do:
You will be providing one on one support with all aspects of daily living including:
  • Support our client with dignity and respect in both home and community environments
  • Work collaboratively with the family and colleagues
  • Offer positive motivation, consistency, and companionship.
  • Support independence with household tasks and meal preparation
  • Companionship and meaningful interaction
  • Facilitating the client’s involvement in activities and community outings

About You:
  • You are fit, active and adaptable
  • You hold a current, clean full New Zealand driver’s license – work car provided
  • You’re eligible to work in New Zealand and can meet police vetting requirements
  • Have consistent and long-term availability to ensure continuity with our client
  • Relevant experience in the disability support sector or a willingness to learn
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusting relationships with the client and team.
