Stand at the stern of the canoe and feel the spray of the future biting at your face Mō te tūnga | About the role As a Data Engineer you will assist in constructing and maintaining infrastructure, systems and pipelines needed to collect, store and process police data, making it clean, reliable, scalable and accessible in an optimised and effective way.
You will enable the Data and Performance Insights Directorate by ensuring the availability of reliable, accurate and governed data to internal and external stakeholders to enable informed decision-making. The ideal candidate will bring a strong user or consumer focus to all aspects of your work and have a positive and pro-active working style.
Key Accountabilities: Design, development and maintenance of data pipelines for internal use and consumption by external organisations. Development and maintenance of Data Infrastructure. Implement processes to maintain high quality data. Implementation of Data Governance, Security and Compliance.
Demonstrate technical and analytical skills in the use of complex data and associated reporting tools. Understand the technical elements of data and statistics, including their limitations, in telling the whole story. Work in an agile manner - complete tasks both strategically and reactively to respond to changes in our operating environment.
Identify, build and maintain effective relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders. He aha taau e kawe mai | What you'll bring Whilst we are looking for skills, knowledge and experience relevant to the role, we also place high importance on your state of mind, the alignment of your values with ours, your ability to contribute to and build high performing teams, and the way that you lead yourself or others.
Experience using a range of other statistical analysis and data visualisation tools is also an advantage, including R, R Shiny, Python, ArcGIS, QGis, Tableau, and PowerBI. Exposure to cloud data platforms such as Microsoft Azure, DataBricks or SnowFlake.
Strong written and oral communication skills. High level of accountability, integrity and ethical standards. At least 2 years' experience in managing, analysing and reporting administrative data. Experience using a suite of SAS data preparation, analysis and visualisation tools is preferable, but not essential.
Good understanding of the Privacy Act 2020. This role is Individual Contributor/Emerging Leader level.
