Ngā kawenga | About the roleYou will be working in a challenging environment supported by a team of experienced professional colleagues.In the role you will engage with people in a positive way and will have the opportunity to not only change the lives of the people in Prison but also whānau by influencing change through your interactions.
As a CO you will spend much of your time working within the unit(s) supervising the people in Prison with their daily routines, escorting them around the site to education programmes or other appointments.Monitor, assess and manage behaviour and safety, help control, and lessen any conflict within the unit(s).

He kōrero mōu | About you Our team come from a variety of backgrounds and life experiences which all come together to support the fabric of our mahi and our unique purpose.If you have the following skills and attributes, you could make a great Corrections Officer:A positive mindsetAbility to engage with whānau, iwi and hapūMotivated to make a positive impact in your communityInspired by having the opportunity to change someone's lifeBe able to work rostered shifts across 24/7 pattern including weekends and public holidaysExperience within a Kaupapa Māori or Pasifika environment, while not essential is desirableRelevant experience within a people focussed role ie Security, Police, Military, Healthcare or similar where you have built an understanding of how to facilitate positive outcomes for others.Along with your unique skills and perspective we also need you to have the following:Current and full New Zealand driver licence or Restricted Licence with the ability to sit your full licence within the next 3 months.The legal right to work in New Zealand or a Work Visa with at least 24 months remaining*Pre-employment checks are also required and include: Drug test, full disclosure criminal conviction check (Clean Slate Act does not apply), medical assessment, a physical fitness assessment and reference checks.We provide fully paid training, you will commence training on our CODP (Corrections Officer Development Pathway) which involves an initial week's induction onsite, five weeks at our National Learning Centre in Wellington then six weeks back at your site, before graduating and from there, the learning journey will be ongoing.
