The role:

In this role working within the Infrastructure and Investment Group, you will have the opportunity to work on some of the most complex hospital orientated plant, machinery, equipment and associated systems in the country, opening the door for future career opportunities.

The Shift Engineer role is responsible for ensuring all the Hospital/s mechanical and electrical equipment, plant and machinery is in an appropriate, safe operating condition and that it is serviced according to the appropriate standards, guidelines, legislation and manufacturers recommendations and is available in a fit state for use when needed at Waitemata district's sites.
Day to day, some of your responsibilities will include;
  • Preventative maintenance as well as managing the response to any building or engineering emergencies.
  • Development and maintenance of building management systems including software.
  • Undertake regular testing and checks on major plant to minimise or prevent failures and outages whilst promoting good energy management practices.
  • Organising and managing preferred contractors.
  • Following and complying with all H&S policies and processes and participating in activities directed at preventing harm and promoting well-being in the workplace

With responsibilities across boilers, air conditioning systems, air handling units, water chilling machines, emergency generators and power systems, supply and reticulation of electricity, gas, water and medical gases as well as support systems including Maintenance Planning Systems, Building Management Systems and related documentation.

Travel between hospital sites across the Waitemata Health District is expected as part of the role and so, a current driver's licence is essential.

Reporting to the Facilities Manager, you will be a rostered member (4 on 4 off shift roster, and provide cover for leave, sickness and training on a rostered basis) of the on-call (24/7, 365 days per annum) maintenance engineering team.

You will need your NZCE Level 6 or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering with 10 years + proven practical experience in maintaining and operating HVAC and

mechanical building plant and services. Ideally, you will also have an Electrical Limited Registration (EST) with a current practicing certificate.

You will be delivery focused and be able to multitask. As well has having excellent written communication and interpersonal skills, you'll be self-motivated and hands-on with a can-do attitude.

You will naturally be a team player and inquisitive problem solver with an analytical mindset, and have the ability to effectively manage priorities in order to drive change
