We continue to work with others to achieve equity in key health indicators for Maaori, Pacific and communities with health disparities and will continue to develop and implement plans, based on local needs to improve the health and wellbeing of Counties Manukau region.
Our main sites are Middlemore Hospital, Kidz First Hospital and Manukau Health Park.We are part of Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora, the overarching organisation for New Zealands national health service. HNZ leads the day-to-day running of the health system, with functions delivered at local, district, regional and national levels.
About the role: The Auckland Spinal Rehabilitation Unit is a specialised centre for people who have sustained a spinal cord injury, through trauma or a medical event. We are only one of two specialised regional units in New Zealand. Our interdisciplinary team have a great collaborative approach to ensure we maximise each persons potential.
Our aim is to provide support, education and empower each individual along with their whanau to allow them to return to their home and community.We want you as part of our team which offers in-patient, out-patient and outreach services. This is a very fulfilling job as you establish therapeutic relationships with those needing specialised rehab over their 2-16 week length of stay.
Spinal cord injury not only affects mobility and sensation below the level of injury but has many systemic effects. People often think of spinal nursing as `sad and `heavy but the environment is full of fun and hope, as we celebrate each small win and milestone with the patients along their journey.We provide a supported 3 month orientation period, inclusive of a 3-4 weeks supernumerary period.
This time consists of practical, E-Learning and theoretical teaching. We have regular onsite in-service programme and there are opportunities to attend conferences or engage in programmes to extend you learning.
