Sawmill Nightshift Team (Leader Development Role) – Sawmill
An opportunity has arisen within our Sawmill nightshift operation for a hands-on development role reporting to the Sawmill Nightshift Coordinator and Sawmill Manager. To ensure adequate succession plans are in place, this position is designed to train and develop into a future Team Leader , while also gaining the capability to provide coverage for the Coordinator when required.
The successful candidate will initially work across operator roles to gain a comprehensive understanding of Red Stag Timber's equipment, processes, and technology . Over time, they will transition into a Team Leader role, where they will continue to be actively hands-on on the floor , while also leading and supporting Chargehands in people management, decision-making, and operational leadership.When the Coordinator is away, a Team Leader will step up to provide higher-level coverage.
Our ideal applicant will:- Bring 5–10+ years’ experience in a high-volume wood manufacturing or similar environment.
- Demonstrate a strong aptitude for learning equipment, processes, and technology.
- Have sound knowledge of machining and workplace safety.
- Familiar with basic computer and administration work, with a willingness to learn more.
- Learning all operator roles to build broad knowledge of the sawmill operation.
- Being hands-on in operations, leading by example.
- Leading and assisting Chargehands with daily people management and decision-making.
- Ensuring correct operation of machinery and compliance with SOPs.
- Recording and following up on breakdowns, stoppages, and lost time.
- Completing administration tasks: timesheets, work orders, purchase orders, consumables replenishment, KPI reporting.
- Providing feedback on machinery performance, equipment defects, and required maintenance.
- Supporting the Nightshift Coordinator and stepping up to cover in their absence.
This role offers a clear leadership pathway for someone motivated to grow into a future Nightshift Team Leader , combining hands-on operational involvement with people leadership responsibilities, and the opportunity to act as a key support for the Coordinator
Please note: The start date for this role is flexible, due to our annual Christmas shutdown of plant, there will be limited work available during this period (approximately one month), as such, we are happy for the successful candidate to commence in mid-January when operations resume.
