About the Role, We are seeking a compassionate, patient, and reliable Support Worker/Mentor to join our team. This role involves supporting individuals living with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Schizophrenia to live fulfilling, independent lives within their community.
As a Support Worker/Mentor, you will provide person-centred support tailored to each individual’s needs, goals, and preferences. You will play a key role in building trust, promoting independence, and encouraging meaningful community participation.
Key Responsibilities, Personal Care: Assisting with daily living activities while maintaining dignity and respectHome Management: Supporting with household tasks such as cleaning, meal preparation, and organisation
Community Engagement: Supporting clients to access and participate in community activities, appointments, and social opportunities
Mentorship: Providing emotional support, encouragement, and guidance
Documentation: Maintaining accurate and timely case notes and reports
About You, You are someone who is Patient, empathetic, and understanding. Reliable and able to work independently. A strong communicator with the ability to build rapport, Flexible and adaptable to individual needs and situations.
Skills & Experience, Experience supporting individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and/or Schizophrenia (preferred but not essential). Knowledge of trauma-informed and person-centred approaches (desirable), a full driver’s license and vehicle (preferred).Experience working in a demanding environment, including repetitive conversions and outbursts. Must also be comfortable giving medication (training will be given).
Bonus:Knowledge of New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) would be an advantage; however, training will be provided for the right candidate.
