About the Role

Every day is different and our nursing team enjoys the variety of work, the people they interact with, and the challenge of giving each patient the best customer experience, whilst ensuring that everything runs to schedule.

Shifts are rostered and rotating Monday to Friday between the hours of 07:00 to 21:00hrs

Surgical specialties covered include: General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Gynaecology, Urology, ENT, Ophthalmology, Dental and Acute/Trauma.

As a Health Care Assistant you will be part of our dedicated nursing environment with full support. Your role is to work within the team to assist nursing staff in care delivery, patient monitoring and other tasks as directed.

About the Team/Service/ Location

Wairau Hospital's Day Stay Unit is part of the perioperative department which consists of 5 Operating Theatres with a Recovery Room, a Sterile Services department and the Day Stay Unit.

About you

You will have the personality and skills to get on with a wide variety of people, have great communication skills and love helping people. You will have the ability to work in a flexible manner, demonstrating honesty and reliability. Good IT and organisational skills are preferred.

Experience within the health sector is preferred, but is not essential as full training will be provided.

Qualifications

Essential
  • Year 11 NCEA level 1 English (or equivalent)
  • Year 11 NCEA level 1 Maths (or equivalent)
  • NZQA level 3 qualification (or equivalent)*
Desirable
  • Home Carer Certificate (or equivalent)
Mandatory requirement
  • NZQA Level 3: New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing - Health Assistance Strand, if not previously obtained, is to be commenced once orientations have been attended.
