PART TIME SUPPORT WORKER - PALMERSTON NORTH

The shifts available are Saturday and Sunday 6.30 to 9.30pm plus extra shifts to relieve our permanent team which include evenings, weekends, and public holidays.

Your role involves providing support to a young female with an intellectual disability to live in her own home. To help develop independence and acquire skills for daily living.

• Have empathy for the challenges of trying to build an ordinary life while living with a disability.
• Ability to remain calm, and calming, in all situations.
• Good at explaining and negotiating.
• Enjoy working with people to achieve their goals and learn new skills.
• Keen on building relationships.
• Full driver’s license.

• Foster positive change for a more positive life.
• Skill building, which may include life skills, social skills, and support to achieve personal goals.
• Advocacy, which may include helping her to navigate systems like MSD and medical appointments.
• Provide support with household management and daily living tasks, which may include shopping, laundry, and meal preparation.
• Social support, which may include companionship, help connect with the community and build relationships, facilitate social activities.
• Help with transportation to various activities, appointments, and shopping.

• An interest or study background in psychology appreciated but is not necessary.
• Experience supporting people with intellectual disability and/or mental health issues, and/or behaviours that can be challenging is desirable but not necessary.
• Reliability, commitment, and passion for working with people.
• Someone with flexibility in working hours to help relieve our permanent team which includes evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
