About the Role
We are seeking an experienced, reliable, practical, and proactive Caretaker/Property Manager to join our establishment team. This role will ensure our new school facilities and grounds are safe, well-maintained, and presented to a high standard.
This is a 30-hour per week position, paid under the NZEI Support Staff in Schools Collective Agreement (Caretaker, Grade 2, plus allowances as applicable).
Key ResponsibilitiesAssist in the handover from the build team to our team in all things related to Property
Care for and maintain the school grounds, gardens, and outdoor spaces to a high standard
Carry out general property maintenance, minor repairs, and upkeep of school facilities.
Support the Principal with the setup and establishment of property systems and processes.
Oversee contractors and tradespeople on site.
Manage and maintain caretaking supplies, equipment, and property records.
Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation and promote safe practices.
Provide property-related support for school events and activities.
Oversee security of the school buildings, including locking/unlocking, alarms, and incident response.
Skills and AttributesPractical hands-on skills in property and grounds care (e.g., carpentry, gardening, minor repairs, general maintenance).
Understanding of workplace health and safety.
Ability to work independently and use initiative, particularly in a new and evolving school setting.
Strong organisational, time management and problem-solving skills.
A team-focused, positive attitude with good communication skills (both written and oral)Reliability, honesty, and alignment with our school values: Manaakitanga, Auaha, Mahi Tahi, Manawanui.
RequirementsCurrent New Zealand driver’s licence.
The successful applicant will be required to undergo a police vetting check under the Children’s Act 2014.
Physical fitness and ability to carry out manual handling tasks.
