Operate and maintain forestry harvesting machinery

Type: Full-time/Permanent
Pay Range: $30 to $45 per hour
Days: Monday to Saturday
Hours: Guaranteed at least 30 hours per week with standard hours of 40 hours per week
The Company: Our client, is a leading forestry harvesting company serving the Bay of Plenty region. Specializing in production thinning and clear-fell harvesting, they supply quality timber to both domestic and international markets. The company is committed to safety, efficiency, and innovation, investing heavily in modern equipment and ongoing staff training to meet industry standards.
Key Responsibilities: In this role, you will efficiently operate and maintain harvesting machinery to meet production and safety standards.
As a Harvester Operator, your main responsibilities will include:
- Felling and processing stems for efficient extraction and in accordance with forest company requirements
- Operating the harvester safely and productively, ensuring consistent output and avoiding unnecessary damage
- Maintaining machinery as per manufacturer specifications and carrying out regular machine washdowns
- Managing bars, chains, and consumables to meet operational requirements
- Meeting thinning and selection requirements to ensure minimal stand damage and optimal stocking
- Ensuring logs are trimmed and laid out properly to streamline extraction operations
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Three years of relevant work experience
- Experience operating Komatsu 931 Wheeled Harvester highly regarded
- A strong understanding of forestry health and safety obligations
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to work under pressure
- Proven organisational and time management skills
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test
- Must have a clean police report with no charges pending
