*About the Role:*

This role involves providing high-quality care for our daughter, who has complex disabilities and requires specialist medical support. Work will be primarily based at our family home in Queenstown, but travel to hospitals across New Zealand will be required on occasion.

*Key Responsibilities:*
  • Provide full personal care, including bathing, dressing, feeding, changing and overnight supervision.
  • Undertake specialist care tasks, including tracheostomy suctioning and nasogastric feeding.
  • Support all aspects of the child’s daily living, ensuring comfort, dignity and safety.
  • Provide stimulating and enjoyable activities that promote engagement and development.
  • Monitor for signs of distress or medical needs and respond appropriately.
  • Maintain clear and patient communication with the family.
  • Assist with travel to hospitals and provide care during hospital stays.
  • Carry out any additional care duties as reasonably required by the family.
  • Take responsibility for maintaining a safe environment for the child, the family and yourself.

*Person Specification:*

*Essential:*
  • At least 1 year of hands-on experience caring for disabled children, including tracheostomy care.
  • At least 1 year of hands-on experience with nasogastric feeding.
  • Physically capable of safely lifting, repositioning and transferring a 7-year-old child multiple times per shift.
  • Experience supporting vulnerable individuals or families, with integrity and patience.
  • Knowledge of basic health and safety practices in a home-based care setting.
  • Current police check.
  • Ability to work night shifts, weekends and public holidays.
  • Ability to travel to hospitals nationwide when required.
  • Excellent communications skills (English language).
*Desirable:*
  • Current First Aid Certificate.

  • Compassionate, respectful and calm under pressure.
  • Strong personal hygiene and attention to detail in care tasks.
  • Patient communicator who seeks clarification when needed.
  • Reliable, dedicated and able to work independently while being part of a small care team.
*Other Information:*
  • This is a permanent position with a minimum of 30 guaranteed hours per week.
  • Typical shifts are 10 hours, rostered primarily overnight, with three shifts per week.
  • The role is based at our family home in Queenstown, Otago.
  • Travel to hospitals around New Zealand is required as part of the role.
  • Training is available.
  • Full, Class 1 Car licence is required for this role.
  • Police check is required.
  • Pre-employed drug test is required.
  • Face to face interview at our place in Queenstown is required.
