Job Description**

**Ready to grow your building or planning career while working with a fun, supportive team?**

If you’re detail-focused, confident with systems and love work that genuinely makes a difference, this could be the opportunity you’ve been waiting for. Join our Building Control team and play a key role in keeping our community safe while building valuable experience in local government regulation and compliance.

**The Opportunity**

We’re on the lookout for a proactive, organised and people-focused professional to join our friendly and high-performing Building Control team at Gore District Council. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys variety, thrives in a busy environment and wants to build a long-term career in building control, compliance or planning.

You don’t need to know everything yet—what matters most is your willingness to learn, your eye for detail and your positive attitude. You’ll be surrounded by experienced, down-to-earth colleagues who enjoy what they do and genuinely support each other (yes, the team is as fun as it is knowledgeable).

As our Regulatory Administrator & Compliance Specialist, you’ll support the building consent lifecycle from start to finish. You’ll gain hands-on exposure to building consents, Compliance Schedules, Building Warrants of Fitness and planning-related processes—making this a fantastic stepping stone for future roles in building or planning.

You’ll work closely to support the Building team, fellow regulatory professionals and our community, ensuring everything runs smoothly, accurately and in line with statutory requirements.

**Job Requirements**

To succeed in this role, you’ll bring:
  • Knowledge of building regulation (or a strong desire to learn and grow in this space)
  • 1–2 years’ experience in an administrative or similar role
  • Strong computer skills, especially in Excel and Word
  • Clear written communication and confident phone manner
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong organisational skills
  • A full New Zealand driver’s licence
  • The right to live and work in New Zealand
  • Possess strong language and comprehensive skills

**Job Responsibilities**

**What You’ll Be Doing**

In this varied and rewarding role, you will:
  • Provide high-quality administrative support across Building Control functions under the Building Act 2004
  • Draft Compliance Schedules from Compliance Schedule Site Audit & Site inspection reports.
  • Assist with Compliance Schedules, BWOF administration, notices and other technical compliance activities
  • Respond to customer enquiries with confidence and professionalism, ensuring all records are accurately captured in electronic systems.
  • Prepare and compile LIM reports, interpreting building and property information
  • Support the wider regulatory and planning teams with permit lodgments, applications, invoicing and document management
  • Collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders, including building officers, planners, tradespeople, consultants and the public
  • Jump in and support the team during busy periods—because teamwork really matters here

**Job Benefits**

**Why You’ll Love Working Here**- A welcoming, fun and collaborative team
  • A role that directly supports community safety and quality outcomes
  • Real opportunities to grow your skills and career in building or planning
  • Supportive leadership and on-the-job learning
  • Great work–life balance and wellbeing focus

If you’re looking for a role where you can learn, contribute and genuinely enjoy coming to work, we’d love to hear from you.
