About the RoleDo you have a passion for healthcare and enjoy working in a team environment?Join our friendly and supportive laboratory team, providing specimen collection services (phlebotomy) for the local community.The successfully applicant will mostly be responsible for specimen collection, but may also be required to perform other pre-analytical work such as specimen registration and preparation.This role is suitable for either an experienced phlebotomist, or someone who is passionate about healthcare and would welcome the opportunity to work towards a qualification in medical laboratory science.

About the Team/ServiceOur laboratory is an integral part of the wider laboratory services at Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora Waikato, servicing inpatients, outpatients and community patients. This part time position will supplement the current laboratory team of 8 staff.The laboratory has up to date technology, and mostly performs testing of Haematology and Biochemistry samples for hospital and community patients. A smaller amount of Microbiology is performed on site. The laboratory also issues blood products, and oversees a range of Point of Care testing for the clinical areas of the hospital.
About youSkills and experience you will need to be considered for the role:Ideally a registered Pre-Analytical Medical Laboratory Technician or eligible for registration with the Medical Sciences Council.Applicants without this qualification and the right attributes may also be considered and will be given full trainingPhlebotomy experience will be advantageousFlexibility to work extra hours to cover unscheduled leave is desirableA people person with the ability to communicate empatheticallyAbility to work independently as well as part of the team Working at Health New Zealand Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is dedicated to ensuring excellent healthcare for the people of New Zealand.
