About the Role

This full time position is designed to develop the registered nurse knowledge and skills in diabetes education and clinical management to an expert level. The internship consists of three nine month rotations across the major sub-specialty areas of the Diabetes Service and includes clinical supervision with a Clinical Nurse Specialist, support for post graduate study, professional supervision and preparation for prescribing.

At the completion of the Internship programme you will be prepared both academically and clinically to:

  • Challenge Expert Level PDRP
  • Apply for accreditation as Diabetes Nurse Specialist
  • Meet the requirements for prescribing within the scope of diabetes care as set out by NZ Nursing Council
  • Apply for a senior nursing position within a diabetes speciality area of practice

About the Service

Te Whatu Ora Waikato Regional Diabetes Service provides secondary level care to those within the Waikato Region. This expands as far as Coromandel, Taumarunui, Te Kauwhata and the Raglan coast. We have a large multi-disciplinary team and promote a positive approach to teamwork.

We are committed to and support the learning and development of our staff to give the best possible care to our patients.

About you
  • Current New Zealand Practicing certificate
  • Minimum of three years post graduate experience
  • Experience working with people with both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes
  • Ability to apply Te Tiriti o Waitangi to improve health outcomes and equity for Maori.
  • Full drivers licence
