placeWanganui calendar_month

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate female Support Worker to join our vibrant team in Palmerston-North. At Community Connections, we do things collectively, guided by our strong values and deep passion for empowering people with disabilities to live the lives they choose.

About Us

Community Connections is a values-driven disability support provider working across the North Island. Our vision is an inclusive Aotearoa, where disabled people are respected, supported, and free to live life on their own terms, within the community they choose.

We are proud to be an Equal Employment Opportunities employer, committed to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, and the New Zealand Disability Strategy. We warmly welcome applicants from all backgrounds, especially those with lived experience of disability or mental health, Maori, Pasifika, and LGBTQIA+ communities.

The Role

You’ll be part of a supportive team providing 24/7 residential care across a variety of services based in and around Palmerston North. In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to make a real difference—helping people develop independence, grow essential life skills, and live meaningful lives in a way that reflects their choices.

Your work will include supporting a female alongside another support worker, in personal care and daily routines, encouraging skill-building, and promoting independence in safe, structured, and person-led environments. Support with community participation is also important here and a love for some art and craft activities.

These roles require flexibility, including the ability to work weekends and evenings.

Currently we require the following shifts. There may come more hours available for you to take up if you wish.

Week1:
Monday: 8am to 4pm
Tuesday: 4pm - 10pm

Thursday: 3pm to 11pm

Week2: off

About You

To thrive in this role, you will bring a caring nature and ideally some experience in providing personal care.

Kindness, patience, and the ability to engage positively with others will be essential, as will good time management and calm, creative problem-solving.

Experience supporting people with disabilities, particularly those with complex needs, autism, or challenging behaviours, will be an advantage. An understanding of structured environments and sensory needs will further enable you to create safe, empowering spaces.

You’ll need to be comfortable following established routines while staying adaptable to changing needs.

Resilience, humour, and a genuine passion for helping others achieve their goals are key.

Essential criteria for this role:
  • Experience working with individuals with personal care needs
  • Full NZ Driver's Licence
  • Legal right to work in New Zealand
  • Willingness to undergo criminal and Oranga Tamariki checks
Desirable:
  • Current First Aid Certificate
  • Certificate in Health and Wellbeing, Level 3 or above

Why Join Us

At Community Connections, you’ll be part of a values-led team that is passionate about making a positive difference every day. We are committed to your personal and professional growth and will support you to achieve your Level 4 Certificate in Health and Wellbeing.

We value the incredible work you do and offer a range of benefits, including:
  • Weekend pay rates
  • Mobile phone allowance
  • Access to an Employee Assistance Programme
  • Ongoing training and professional development opportunities

If you’re ready to take the next step in a meaningful, empowering, and community-focused career—we’d love to hear from you.
