Welder & Sheet-metal Fabricator

General Job Description:

Fabricators will fully utilise their skills & expertise to cut, shape & join metal & Sheetmetal components, complete jobs & tasks to the best of their ability & skill level. Focusing on high standards of work, precision, accurate quantities & meeting completion dates.

Normal working hours: 7.30am - 4pm, Monday-Friday, Minimum guaranteed hours are 32 hours per week.

Hourly pay $30-35 per hour

Reports to: Foreman & Sales Engineer.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Studying drawings & specifications to determine job requirements
  • Selecting, cleaning & preparing materials and components for processing
  • Measuring, marking sections & shapes using hand tools
  • Shaping & bending metal sections & pipes using hand & machine tools, & by heating & hammering & CNC press brake operation
  • Aligning parts to be joined using hand tools & measuring instruments
  • Tig, Mig welding
  • Examining welds for width of bead, penetration & precision
  • Finishing products by cleaning, polishing & washing in acidic solutions
  • Cleaning & smoothing welds by filing, chiseling & grinding
  • Assembly of components related to different projects
  • Tidying of the work area, machinery & equipment after the job is completed
  • Follow health & safety procedures
  • Follow systems & procedures
  • Accurately record the time & material used on a job. Report & recommend changes to BOM
Experience required
  • Formal welding qualifications required
  • Minimum 6 years of employment in an engineering or fabrication role
Key Skills Required The applicant must be able to demonstrate proficiency in:
  • Correctly reading & interpreting working drawings
  • Knowledge of Mig and Tig welders, parts & operational settings
  • Demonstrate continuous professional welds with correct penetration against various materials and thicknesses.
  • Employees need to be hard-working, motivated & capable of heavy lifting
