About the Organisation

Te Rangihaeata Oranga Trust (Gambling Recovery Service Hawke's Bay) is a Kaupapa Maori service working to reduce gambling harm and enhance Maori wellbeing. They are grounded in the values of rongomau, aroha, pono, tika and rangimarie.

About the Job

Te Rangihaeata Oranga Trust has secured the gambling harm lead Health Promotion contract for Te Ikaroa (Wellington, Palmerston North, Levin, Whanganui and Hawke's Bay) until June 2027. This will see you based in Heretaunga, Hastings but working with a regional kaupapa.

You'll be

designing, developing and translating health promotion messages into engaging and culturally resonant communications and resources that support gambling harm awareness.

Core responsibilities include:
  • Creating digital, print, and social media materials
  • Managing a calendar of significant dates and promotional campaigns
  • Capturing visual content at community events
  • Building and sharing a regional library of kaupapa Maori resources
  • Participating in weekly planning hui and monthly reporting

This is a full-time position working Monday to Friday, 8.30am - 5pm. There will be some community events after hours and on the weekends that you'll need to be available for (ie: Waitangi Day).

About You

You are a creative and self-motivated communicator with a deep commitment to hauora Maori and uplifting whanau and communities. Grounded in tikanga and passionate about reducing gambling harm, you bring both heart and skill to your mahi.

You'll bring:
  • A background in digital / social media, communications, or resource development
  • Training or qualifications in health promotion or Maori health
  • Strong cultural competency and community connection—ideally with iwi, hapu, or grassroots networks
  • Emotional intelligence and resilience to engage in often sensitive kaupapa
  • Autonomy and self-direction, with the ability to manage your own time and stay aligned with team kaupapa
  • An understanding of Maori health promotion cycles and cultural milestones like Matariki and Gambling Harm Awareness Week
