About the Role

This isn’t a desk job. As a Traffic Management Operative (TMO) Practicing or Site Traffic Management Supervisor (STMS) Practicing based out of our Traffic Safe Hamilton Waikato branch you’ll be part of a crew who set up monitor, and maintain TTM sites, carry out stop/go operations, monitor live traffic and conduct site inductions.

Leading from the lane, you’ll read the road and make real-time calls to keep traffic flowing while managing safety risks.

Cones down, signs up, radios on! This is real-time Temporary Traffic Management where your experience matters.

What You’ll Be Responsible For:
  • Setting up, monitoring, and maintaining traffic management sites, ensuring all control devices (cones, signs, barriers) are correctly placed and compliant with approved TMPs.
  • Carrying out stop/go operations, adjusting layouts, and responding to live traffic conditions.
  • Leading and supervising on-site crews, including Traffic Controllers allocating tasks, conducting toolbox talks, and supporting the delivery of safe, compliant work zones.
  • Conducting site inductions and safety inspections, while maintaining accurate daily records such as activity logs, safety checks, and incident reports.
  • Championing safety! Applying a risk-based approach and upholding compliance with all relevant regulations and standards.
What You'll Bring:
  • Experience in Traffic Management
  • TMO Practicing or STMS A/B Practicing Qualification.
  • MUST hold a Full Class 1 NZ Driver’s License (Bonus: If you hold a Class 2)
  • Strong communication skills (verbal, and written)
  • Confidence to lead crews & apply NZGTTM principles to make risk-based decisions that prioritizes safety
  • Physically Fit & capable - you’ll be on your feet, lifting gear, and working outdoors in various conditions.
