Porirua libraries offer a range of library services, collections, leisure activities and spaces to the residents of Porirua City. Our libraries are welcoming, vibrant and varied workplaces with a strong community focus. Our library staff support literacy, and promote knowledge, information gathering, research and study, and our resources include Mori, Pacific and heritage and genealogy collections.
The library client services team offers a range of services to the residents of Porirua City. This role participates in the life of the community by providing stellar customer service daily.
All about the role
This role has primary responsibility for the delivery of Housebound services to library members.
In addition you will be responsible for:- Supporting the delivery of customer focused, innovative and effective library services at Porirua Library
- Creating a welcoming and stimulating environment for visitors to the library
- General front desk duties such as answering customer queries, issuing and returning items; assisting with public use computers, printing and scanning documents.
- Shelving returned items
- Assisting with the opening and closing of the library as needed.
- Relieving branch staff as required. Porirua library has branches in Titahi Bay, Cannons Creek, Whitby and Pukerua Bay.

You'll need to show us that you:- have previous experience working in a library or similar customer service environment
- are comfortable with personal technology such as smart phones and e-readers
- are able to help people with computer use
- are organised, reliable and committed to working as part of a team
- are methodical and conscientious in your approach to work
- It would be a bonus if you are working towards a library qualification
- A driver's license is desirable
- Knowledge of a language other than English used in the Porirua Community would be advantageous.
