Facilities caretaker
About the Role**
We're on the lookout for a hands-on and reliable Facilities Maintenance ground person with skills in general repairs and grounds upkeep to join our team at Ormiston Junior College. Currently this is a 3-month temporary position** and a rewarding opportunity to help maintain a safe and well-functioning learning environment for students and staff.
You'll be primarily based at Ormiston Junior College, with flexibility to support other nearby school sites as needed. Working Monday to Friday in 8-hour shifts between 8:00am and 4pm, you'll report directly to the on-site Facilities Coordinator.
This is a physically active role where no two days are the same - you'll be getting your steps in while taking pride in keeping the facilities clean, safe, and in great condition.
**Key Responsibilities:**- Completing diverse work requests within the time frames given.
- General repairs, basic carpentry, and grounds maintenance
- Cleaning and upkeep of facilities
- Build and maintain strong relationships with many varied parties from Contractors to School Operators, to colleagues and peers.
- Undertake regular inspections of the Facility.
- Basic computer tasks such as logging work orders and reporting
- Ensuring minimal disruption to the school's day-to-day operations
- Physically fit, flexible and adaptable
- Background in garden/grounds maintenance is ideal
- Strong work ethic with a can-do attitude
- Clear criminal conviction history as you will undergo full police vetting.
- Excellent communication skills with basic computer literacy
- Able to work both independently and as part of a team
- Reliable, honest, and takes pride in ownership of responsibilities
- Full, clean NZ Driver's Licence
- Must have the right to work in New Zealand
Please note: Due to the sensitive nature of this role within school facilities, strict background checks are required, including:
- Drug and Alcohol screening
- Ministry of Justice criminal record check
- School Police Vetting
