We are seeking a motivated and experienced Store Manager to oversee the daily operations of Addington Fresh, a local supermarket specialising in high-quality fruit, vegetables, and grocery essentials. This is a hands-on role suited to someone with strong leadership, excellent product knowledge, and a passion for delivering outstanding customer service.
About the role: It is a full-time and permanent position, about 30-45 hours per week.
- Location: Christchurch, Canterbury
- Salary: $30 - $32 per hour (depending on skills and experience)
The role involves working during early mornings, late afternoons, weekends, and public holidays.
Key Responsibilities:- Monitor and decide the range of fruit, vegetables, and grocery products to meet customer demand and seasonal availability.
- Ensure stock is fresh, rotated regularly, and displayed attractively.
- Manage ordering, supplier relationships, and negotiate purchasing terms to secure the best quality and price.
- Lead by example in providing exceptional service and product knowledge to customers.
- Assist customers with selecting produce, advising on storage, preparation, and use.
- Handle customer enquiries and resolve complaints promptly and professionally.
- Set competitive pricing while maintaining profitability.
- Plan and implement in-store promotions and local advertising to attract and retain customers.
- Develop seasonal promotions (e.g., fruit boxes, bulk vegetable specials) to increase sales.
- Maintain accurate records of stock movement, sales, and daily financial transactions.
- Prepare and manage store budgets, monitor financial performance, and control costs.
- Recruit, train, and supervise store assistants, ensuring strong product knowledge and excellent customer service skills.
- Create staff rosters to meet business needs and ensure adequate coverage.
- Foster a positive, team-oriented work environment.
- Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene, and workplace health & safety standards.
- Monitor store cleanliness, equipment safety, and staff adherence to safety practices.
- At least three years of relevant experience in retail management or a supervisory role, ideally in food, fresh produce, or supermarket retail
- Strong knowledge of fresh fruit and vegetable handling, storage, and presentation.
- Proven skills in staff management, budgeting, and stock control.
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities, with a customer-first mindset.
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Flexibility to work across weekends and public holidays as required.
