Industrial Sewing Machinist - Dargaville

Full-time role in Kaipara, Northland

Hours: Guaranteed at least 30 hours per week

The company is a leading manufacturer of canvas products, including bags, tents, awnings, and more. They pride themselves on quality craftsmanship and innovation, and we're looking for a skilled Industrial Sewing Machinist to join their team in the Northland region.

Use your skills in industrial sewing to create top-quality canvas products while maintaining accuracy, safety, and efficiency.

As an Industrial Sewing Machinist, your main responsibilities will include:

• Operate industrial sewing machines to sew canvas materials to specification
• Measure, cut, and prepare canvas materials following patterns or blueprints
• Use various stitching techniques (lockstitch, zigzag, overlock) for quality finishes
• Inspect finished products, identify defects, and perform repairs or alterations
• Set up, thread, and maintain sewing machines to ensure efficient operation
• Choose appropriate threads and understand different types of canvas materials
• Adhere to safety protocols and maintain a tidy, safe working environment

To be successful in this role, you will need:

• At least three years' relevant work experience OR a qualification at NZQF Level 4/equivalent or higher.
• Proficiency in operating industrial sewing machines
• Strong knowledge of canvas materials and stitching techniques
• High attention to detail and consistent product quality
• Ability to perform routine machine maintenance and minor troubleshooting
• Familiarity with safety practices in a manufacturing environment
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
• Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test
• Must have a clean police report with no charges pending
