The DCC is seeking a strategic, community-focused leader to join the Executive Leadership Team (ELT). This is a unique opportunity to shape and deliver strategies that enrich Otepoti Dunedin's cultural and recreational landscape.

The DCC is the local authority for the wider Otepoti Dunedin area, which covers 3340 square kilometres from north of Waikouaiti to the Taieri River in the South and inland to Hyde.

The Opportunity
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive, the General Manager Arts, Culture, and Recreation leads the teams that bring our city's cultural and recreational spaces to life, including the Dunedin Public Libraries, Dunedin Public Art Gallery, Toitu Otago Settlers Museum, Lan Yuan Chinese Garden, and Parks and Recreation.
Working in partnership with the Chief Executive and Executive Leadership Team, this role provides advice to Elected Representatives and champions the Council's commitment to growing the community's economic, social, cultural, and environmental well-being.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Strategic Leadership: Developing and executing long-term strategies that align with Otepoti Dunedin's vision of being one of the world's great small cities.
- Operational Excellence: Leading the delivery of efficient, high-value services that meet the needs of ratepayers.
- Building Partnerships: Fostering strong collaboration with public, private, and community organisations, including mana whenua, to support cultural and recreational initiatives.
- Leadership: Building strong teams that deliver great experiences at the DCC's cultural and recreational facilities.
- To promote and contribute to the development of the Council's strategy.
- Actively participate in the Executive Leadership Team of the Council.
- To lead and develop a vision, strategy, and an effective operational/business plan for the Arts, Culture, and Recreation portfolio.
- Drive the business strategy for the portfolio, meeting and exceeding business outcomes and targets.
About You
You are a visionary leader with proven experience managing complex business portfolios, ideally with a cultural or community focus. You will have a strategic mindset and be able to align operational decisions with the long-term goals of the DCC.Maintaining effective relationships with all stakeholders will be second nature to you. Demonstrated success in developing effective team culture, ensuring professional outcomes and accountability for all stakeholders.
You will have a strong commitment to the Treaty of Waitangi principles and demonstrated experience ensuring employee health, safety, and well-being.
