[ref. o71014824] Christchurch - Curriculum Leader (Part-time, Flexible)

placeChristchurch calendar_month
We’re seeking a phenomenal Curriculum Leader to champion quality care and education at our semi-rural centre in the beautiful township of Lincoln. Our centre is proud of its large, well-resourced outdoor playground, low staff turnover, and supportive management team.

We offer a fun, collaborative working environment where relationships matter.

This is a part-time (3–4 days/week) role, flexible for the right candidate, and available immediately due to a medical resignation. You’ll work closely with the Centre Director to lead pedagogy, mentor kaiako, and uphold excellence across our centre.

  • Please note: This is not a classroom teaching role. It is an office-based leadership position focused on curriculum, compliance, mentoring, and quality assurance.
About the role
  • Lead our curriculum with deep pedagogical expertise grounded in Te Whariki (and confident use of tools like Kowhiti Whakapae and He Mapuna te Tamaiti).
  • Guide and mentor kaiako through coaching, observations, feedback, and professional growth cycles (PGCs).
  • Provide sound leadership in licensing, regulations, and centre policies, confidently answering day-to-day compliance questions.
  • Design, lead, and complete robust internal evaluation from start to finish—identifying focus, gathering evidence, analysing impact, implementing change, and reporting outcomes.
  • Be a warm, customer-facing people person who builds strong, trusting relationships with whanau, tamariki, kaiako, and community partners.
  • Partner with the Director on strategic priorities, quality assurance, and continuous improvement.
  • Be meticulous and methodical with paperwork, ensuring clear systems and documentation are in place and maintained.
  • Support kaiako with the documentation of learning.
  • Knowledge of Discover and Storypark is beneficial but not essential.
About you
  • Minimum 10 years’ teaching experience in ECE (NZ), with prior experience as a Curriculum Leader / Pedagogical Leader or in a leadership position.
  • Fully Registered kaiako with the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand and legally able to work in NZ.
  • Proven strength in pedagogical leadership, modelling best practice, and lifting outcomes for tamariki.
  • In-depth knowledge of licensing criteria, regulations, health & safety, and centre policies; you’re the go-to person for clear, confident answers.
  • Demonstrated capability in internal evaluation and data-informed decision-making.
  • An inclusive, relationship-focused leader who oozes warmth, communicates with clarity, and supports a positive team culture.
  • Committed to quality care and education, with high expectations and a calm, coaching approach.
  • Highly organised, systematic, and detail-focused, with strong documentation and compliance skills.
We offer
  • Flexible part-time hours (3–4 days/week).
  • A values-driven, supportive team and hands-on leadership partnership.
  • Real scope to shape practice and make a visible impact for tamariki and whanau.
  • A semi-rural setting in beautiful Lincoln, with a large, well-resourced playground and an environment that supports creativity and exploration.
  • Low staff turnover, supportive management, and a fun, collaborative workplace culture.
  • Ongoing PLD and a culture of reflective, evidence-based improvement.
How to apply
  • Please email your CV and a cover letter outlining relevant leadership and curriculum experience to sonya@gselc.co.nz
  • Applications will be reviewed as they are received.

All appointments are subject to satisfactory safety checks and police vetting in line with the Children’s Act 2014.
