We require a commercially driven professional with a genuine passion for the viticulture and horticulture industries to join our team as Commercial Manager - South Island.

This is a senior commercial role focused on driving growth through strong customer relationships, business development, and strategic execution across existing and emerging markets. While the role is purely commercial, you will be supported by experienced internal technical specialists to help deliver successful commercial outcomes.

About the Role

Reporting to the Business Development Manager, you will be responsible for planning and executing sales and business development initiatives across a portfolio of customers and partners. You will work closely with customers, internal teams, and industry professionals to identify opportunities, develop trials, and convert results into sustainable commercial growth.

This role is remote-based and involves regular travel throughout the South Island, with occasional national or international travel for team meetings.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Partner with the Business Development Manager to align customer plans with the overall New Zealand Business Plan
  • Drive day-to-day business development activities with existing customers
  • Conduct market analysis and identify new commercial opportunities
  • Execute sales strategies with current business partners
  • Manage stock forecasting and planning with customers
  • Identify and develop relationships with potential new business partners
  • Identify key end-users as commercial targets for partners
  • Translate trial results into commercial sales opportunities
  • Develop and manage trial opportunities with end-users
  • Collaborate with Agricultural Technical Officers and external agronomists to plan and execute commercial trials
  • Deliver product training and explain trial data alongside internal team members
  • Maintain and promote a professional corporate image
  • Ensure safe working practices at all times
  • Provide regular progress updates and weekly activity reporting to the Business Development Manager

About You

You are a motivated, self-starting commercial professional who enjoys working autonomously while collaborating closely with internal teams and customers. Our preferred candidate will be based in the Christchurch / Canterbury region however this is negotiable.

You will bring:
  • 3-5+ years' experience in commercial management, sales, or business development
  • A degree in agriculture, business, or finance
  • Strong commercial acumen with excellent planning and time management skills
  • The ability to work remotely with intermittent overnight travel
  • A collaborative approach and strong relationship-building skills
  • Empathy with farmers and business partners
  • A genuine passion for business growth and continuous self-improvement

Knowledge of, or experience across, dairy, horticultural, and arable cropping systems is an advantage but not essential.
