About the role
  • Kōrero mō te tūrangaThe PEAG (originally established in 2020 to guide the COVID-19 response for Pacific communities in New Zealand) will provide the Ministry with independent strategic expert advice and cultural guidance to shape policies and programmes that address the health needs and aspirations of Pacific peoples in New Zealand.We are seeking Pacific candidates with health expertise, lived experience, insight, and a commitment to improving health and wellbeing outcomes for Pacific peoples.
About PEAGThe functions of the PEAG will include:delivering advice that supports system innovation and integration, as well as the monitoring of Pacific health outcomes in New Zealand, providing insight and advice on the implementation of Te Mana Ola: The Pacific Health Strategy, supporting and advising the Ministry's monitoring focus for Pacific health priorities in areas such as primary healthcare, health workforce, Pacific health data and intelligence, Pacific childhood immunisations, Pacific population cancer screening coverage, Pacific mental health and wellbeing, and other public health related matters, being an important layer of quality assurance, enabling other parts of the Ministry to test their strategic documents and programmes, engaging the Minister of Health and Director-General of health if/when requested by them.About you
  • Kōrero mōuMembers of PEAG will participate in discussions, contribute expertise, advice, and support decision-making.

To ensure a diverse and representative group, we are seeking applications from people in the following areas:Pacific Clinicians and Allied Health workers: Including Pacific doctors, nurses, allied health professionals or specialists including policy, public health.

Pacific Community Representatives: Leaders actively engaged with Pacific communities and contributing to better health and social well-being.

Academics and Researchers: With a background in Pacific health research, epidemiology, policy, and/or workforce development.

Youth and Emerging Leaders: To provide insights on the future health needs and priorities of Pacific young people and communities.The Ministry of Health appoints members to the PEAG, typically for a term of two years and members may be reappointed for a second term.

Time commitmentMember roles are not full-time positions.
It is anticipated that PEAG members will meet quarterly.
PEAG members will be remunerated to recognize their time, expertise, and commitment to providing high-quality advice.How to apply
