Candidates who have completed two years post graduate hospital experience including a variety of surgical and medical experience will be considered. About the Team/ServiceOur team provides General Medicine and Rehabilitation care including:acute stroke and heart attackacute infectionshigh acuity care such as DKA infusions or non-invasive ventilationpalliative care (including one SMO being a Palliative Medicine Specialist)RehabilitationBedside procedures — LP, pleural procedures, paracentesis, access to POCUS We operate as three ward teams with consultant and 1-2 RMOs.

SHOs have the chance to work, closely with their consultant each week. We have strong educational focus with weekly hospital meetings, and weekly in-service RMO teaching (peer-to-peer, or SMO led). Accredited with RACP and RNZCGP-DRHM About the LocationThames Hospital is a modern 50-bed secondary care facility offering a comprehensive range of services, including an emergency department, inpatient care, day surgery, an infusion unit, rehabilitation services, birthing unit and low-acuity mental health care.

Our hospital boasts 24-hour laboratory and radiology services, including advanced CT imaging. As an accredited training hub, we support 5th and 6th-year medical students from Auckland University, PGY2 House Officers, and registrars in Rural Hospital Medicine and General and Acute Care Medicine.
We offer a robust quality improvement program, CME opportunities, and an RMO teaching program. Telehealth is expanding at Thames, supporting inpatient care, outpatient clinics, and emergency services like stroke thrombolysis. Located in the heart of The Coromandel, Thames is a charming town steeped in history and surrounded by stunning natural beauty.
The area offers a mix of colonial architecture, a vibrant arts scene, and a rich cultural heritage, including Māori history and the town's gold mining past. About youHold a General Scope of Registration with Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) if you are a NZ/AU Graduate.Have at least 2 years post graduate experience and hold General Registration, if you are from UK or any other comparable health system country.
This should include at least 3-6 months or General Medicine or relevant medical subspecialities.Have completed Internship (2 year) and General Registration, if applying from Ireland.
