This advanced nursing role works autonomously and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary model.Key responsibilities include:Provide a specialist nursing expertise that supports care of patients, working collaboratively with clinicians, members of the multi-disciplinary team and other services.Prescribe and administer medications within legislation, codes, scope of practice and according to established prescribing process and best practice guidelinesTakes a leadership role, as appropriate, utilising nursing specific knowledge in complex situations across settings and disciplinesLead quality improvement initiatives that integrate current best practice and benchmarking information, and that support innovative practice developments that will enhance service deliveryMonitor clinical outcomes / indicators and manage variance to clinical pathway, protocols, or best practice guidelinesClick here to view the position description.About the Team/Service/ LocationThe Emergency Department Team is a multidisciplinary group of healthcare professionals who work together to provide immediate care to patients with acute illnesses and injuries.

Whangarei ED serves a population of roughly 180,000, with a catchment area that stretches from Cape Reinga 4.5 hours north, to Te Hana an hour south, encompassing Kaitaia, Rawene, Bay of Islands and Dargaville referral hospitals.Northlands population is roughly one-third Māori.
We serve as the front door of the hospital, generating 80% of all admissions. We see self-referred patients as well as GP referrals to ED, and all triage 1's or 2's (high acuity patients). Our team's success relies on effective communication, collaboration, and a shared commitment to patient well-being, especially in high-pressure situations.
