ABOUT THE ROLE | Te turanga mahi

Reporting to the Manager Multi Cargo, the Operations Supervisor plays a key role in coordinating day-to-day port activities and ensuring safe, efficient, and customer-focused operations. You'll work closely with internal teams, third-party operators, and external agencies such as Customs and MPI, keeping operations on track while maintaining strong relationships across the port.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate day-to-day Multi Cargo operations to ensure activities run safely, efficiently, and in line with port procedures.
  • Lead on-wharf operations and yard planning, optimising space, resources, and vessel turnaround times.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with third-party operators, internal teams, and external stakeholders such as Customs and MPI.
  • Drive continuous improvement by identifying process efficiencies and opportunities to maximise land capacity and cargo throughput.
  • Ensure full compliance with Health and Safety, MPI, and Customs requirements, and take an active role in incident response and investigations.
  • Oversee operational projects and asset management, supporting the achievement of departmental KPIs and business goals.

You're an experienced operator who thrives in a fast-paced, high-risk environment and knows how to keep things moving, safely and efficiently. You're hands-on, adaptable, and confident making sound decisions under pressure. With strong communication and coordination skills, you build constructive relationships across teams, contractors, and external partners, even in challenging situations.

WHAT YOU NEED | Nga pukenga me wheako
  • Minimum of 5 years working in a Shipping, logistics, port operations, or a similar operational environment.
  • Previous experience managing overlapping PCBU duties and a practical understanding of Health and Safety requirements and PCBU obligations.
  • Proven ability to work well as part of a team.
  • High level of computer literacy, with strong skills in MS Office (especially Word and Excel).
  • Confidence using operational systems and data to plan, monitor, and improve performance.
  • Supervisory experience in a high-risk or operational setting (preferred).
  • Tertiary study or equivalent qualifications (preferred).

Hours of Work:

This is a full-time rostered role averaging 40 hours per week. You'll need to be flexible with hours, shifts are mostly 7:00am-3:00pm, with some weeks working 3:00pm-11:00pm to support operational coverage.
