The OpportunityWe are looking for a passionate and dedicated Haematologist to join our dynamic, forward-focused team at Waikato HospitalNew Zealands largest tertiary hospital. This permanent 0.75 FTE position, with on-call duties, offers an exceptional opportunity to contribute to a department that values clinical excellence, collaborative research, and medical education.Youll be part of a multidisciplinary service committed to delivering equitable, high-quality care across the Midland region.

About the ServiceTe Whatu Ora Waikato is proud to provide a comprehensive suite of haematology services to a diverse and growing population of over 840,000 people across the Midland region. Our commitment to equitable, high-quality care is reflected in the breadth of services we offerspanning inpatient treatment, outpatient support, and advanced laboratory diagnostics.Inpatient care is delivered at Waikato Hospital within a dedicated 30-bed ward shared with oncology services.

Here, we manage complex conditions including acute leukaemias and autografts, while allografts are referred externally.Outpatient services are delivered across the region at local hospitals, with our haematology specialists working in close partnership with local nursing teams to ensure continuity of care and community connection.Our laboratory, also based at Waikato Hospital, plays a vital role in supporting both inpatient and regional needs.
It offers specialised testing, including flow cytometry and cytogenetics/FISH, helping to inform timely and accurate diagnoses.Haematologists at Te Whatu Ora Waikato are a team of eight Senior Medical Officers/Consultants and a dedicated haematopathologist who leads our laboratory services.

We are further supported by community-based diagnostic laboratories and the New Zealand Blood Service, whose on-site facility and Transfusion Medicine Specialist contribute to a robust and responsive care network. Importantly, our service is accredited for advanced training in Haematology by both the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) and the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (RCPA)a reflection of our commitment to excellence, education, and the future of haematology in Aotearoa.
