Health and Fitness Coach

Role Specifications
  • Minimum 30 hours per week
  • Days required: Monday to Friday - 5am to 8pm. May be required work on weekends

Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting individual and group fitness assessments and designing customised exercise programs
  • Providing one-on-one personal training sessions and small group fitness classes
  • Educating clients on proper exercise techniques, nutrition basics, and healthy lifestyle practices
  • Monitoring client progress and adjusting programs as needed to achieve optimal results
  • Maintaining accurate client records and progress documentation
  • Ensuring safe use of gym equipment and adherence to health and safety protocols
  • Providing motivational support and accountability to help clients reach their fitness goals
  • Staying current with industry trends, techniques, and continuing education requirements
  • Assisting with gym operations, including equipment maintenance and facility cleanliness
  • Building strong client relationships and contributing to client retention efforts
  • Travel required: Minimal travel within the Wellington Region may be required for off-site training sessions or fitness events.
Job Prerequisites
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in personal training, fitness coaching, or health and wellness coaching OR
  • Relevant qualification Level 7 (such as a Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Sports Science, or equivalent)
  • Current fitness industry certification (e.g., REPS, ACSM, NASM, or equivalent recognised certification)
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong knowledge of exercise physiology, biomechanics, and nutrition principles
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Reliable, punctual, and self-motivated with a strong work ethic
  • Professional appearance and positive attitude
  • Open work permit in New Zealand with no restriction
Desirable Qualifications
  • Personal training certification and experience
  • Additional specialised certifications (e.g., functional movement, corrective exercise, nutrition coaching)
  • Experience with fitness software and client management systems
  • Group fitness instruction qualifications
  • Previous experience in a gym or fitness facility environment
