Clinical Pharmacist - Quality Use of Medicines Hawkes Bay Fallen Soldiers Hospital

About the Role

As a Quality Use of Medicines Pharmacist, you will play a pivotal role in strengthening medication safety and improving medicines management across Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora Hawkes Bay. This is a systemlevel role focused on medication governance, quality improvement and promoting safe, effective and equitable use of medicines across the hospital and wider health system.

You will lead and support key medication safety initiatives, analyse medication incident trends, coordinate drugusage reviews, contribute to pharmacy and organisational policies, and develop clinical communications for staff. Youll also maintain medicine libraries for infusion devices, contribute to guideline development, and support hospital services to implement evidencebased, costeffective medicine practices.

Although this role is primarily focused on quality use of medicines, you may also support wardbased clinical pharmacy activities and dispensary operations when required.

About the Team/Service/ Location

You will be part of the Hospital Pharmacy team, a collaborative, skilled and supportive group of pharmacists, technicians, assistants and pharmacy leaders who work together to ensure safe and highquality medicines management.

The Pharmacy Department works closely with clinical teams, quality and patientsafety groups, Medicines Management committees, and systemlevel governance teams. Youll also engage with community pharmacists, primary care partners, national bodies and regional networks to help strengthen medication safety practices across the continuum of care.

About you

You are a clinically confident, forwardthinking pharmacist with a passion for improving medication safety, systems and outcomes. You bring strong analytical skills, excellent communication and a proactive approach to quality improvement.

You will have:

  • A recognised pharmacy qualification and current NZ Annual Practising Certificate
  • A postgraduate diploma in clinical pharmacy (or equivalent)
  • Significant hospital pharmacy experience
  • Uptodate and advanced knowledge of pharmacotherapy, therapeutics and pathophysiology
  • Experience in audits, quality improvement, medication safety or practice research
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to analyse data, interpret clinical information and make sound decisions
  • Competence in MS Office applications and confidence using online clinical resources
  • A commitment to safe practice, equity and continuous learning

Desired:

  • Further postgraduate study or specialist training
  • Experience leading audit or project work
  • Familiarity with ePharmacy or other pharmacy information systems
  • Strong skills in Excel, Word and PowerPoint

Youll also bring a positive, solutionsfocused attitude and a collaborative approach to working with both clinical and nonclinical teams.
